Lonesome Traveller

I’m a lonesome traveller
Going my own way
Taking my steps
Under a sky so grey
With the world on my shoulders
from night to day
There’s no hiding
From the pain

I’m a lonesome sailor
Out on the sea
Will the wind blow over
Will it set me free?
Am I stuck in the past
Where I tried and failed?
Am I doomed to move on
Where history repeats itself?

I’m a lonesome drifter
In desert land
A balancing act
Between the sacred and profane
Am I bound to be forgotten
Like a single grain of sand?
A tree of old age
That can no longer stand

I’m climbing upward
Rag and bone
Got my mind set on
Reaching home
Standing on the hilltop
Down on my knees
And I find myself believing
In what I’ve not yet seen
